Providing a helpful Wig Service for people affected by cancer
“I was so happy to receive such colourful headscarves from CCWA Wig Service. They are bright colours which I love. I wear them to the gym and at home. The wig is fantastic and so like my normal hair. Thank you Cancer Council WA.” – Wig Service client
Wigs
Fully trained volunteers are available to assist you with the selection, fitting and management of your products. Please note, every item loaned by the Wig Service is laundered to ensure sanitised products are available for our clients.
If you have already lost your hair, please supply a photograph taken prior to your hair loss to assist with the selection. It is also helpful to see you in your normal make-up, including eyebrow definition.
In order for us to continually provide a free ongoing Wig Service, we do request wigs and products borrowed are returned to the service when they are no longer required.
UPDATE: We are pleased to announce that our Wig Service has now re-opened for face-to-face appointments. We will continue to support our clients via our postal service if they are unable to attend the Service in person.

Frequently asked questions
Can cancer patients get wigs for free?
At Cancer Council WA, our Wig Service is free for those affected by cancer, allowing patients to have access to wigs, turbans, beanies, and scarves. You may borrow a wig or headwear product for as long as you like and exchange it as many times as you need.
Can I donate my hair?
Unfortunately, Cancer Council WA cannot accept real hair donations for various reasons, primarily health related. However, there are other organisations and services in WA and across Australia that collect hair donations. Some of these include:
- Sustainable Hair Salons -an initiative which collects hair for various purposes, including for charities and companies.
- Variety – creates wigs for children.
- Hairific – combines hair donations to create wigs.
- Mr Walkers Wiggery – a sustainable salon making wigs for sale.
Please note: each organisation has specific requirements, such as hair length (e.g., 30cm or longer), cleanliness, and whether the hair has been dyed in the past year. We recommend contacting them directly for their current guidelines, as some may now accept dyed hair.
While Cancer Council WA does not accept real hair donations, we offer a wonderful selection of synthetic wigs through our Wig Service to support individuals undergoing cancer treatment.
